Kaleidoscope

Kaleidoscope

Kaleidoscope at the Sidney Albert Albany JCC is an exciting enrichment program for elementary school-aged children, designed to meet the needs of each child. We mainly serve the Albany school district which provides transportation to the JCC. Children from schools outside the district are also welcome, but transportation must be arranged by the parents.

Children are divided into different groups based on grade (K-1st, 2nd-3rd and 4th-6th). Each group is assigned a home base room where the children can store their backpacks and outerwear when they get off the bus. Then, children enjoy snacks and play games with their friends. Each day there are one to two fun specialty options for the children to participate in at the JCC. Activities are offered to meet our children's diverse needs and interests and may include sports, art, cooking, music, community service, language, etc. Children are always given the option to choose free play or complete homework tasks in their home base room.

Each group has counselors who are trained to supervise and interact with school-age children. The staff-to-child ratio is 1:10 or better during the program.

Typically, an upcoming Jewish Holiday or other community centered topics such as Mitzvot (good deeds) will be another enrichment offering for the children during the school year. A variety of activities make these days fun, as well as educational. The programs are designed so that all children, regardless of religious background, can participate, enjoy themselves and feel comfortable.
